3 Ways to NOT clean AirPods

by Michael North

Earwax we all have it, not only this but also general every day dirt can easily engross your earphones especially AirPods.

3 Ways NOT to clean AirPods

1. The old classic run it under the tap "I think that they are waterproof" - AirPods are NOT waterproof nor are they water resistant. Theatrically even sweat can be an issue. In the second generation model apple did add a water repellent coating to the circuit board but this is not proofing. So steer clear of large bodies of water.

2. Rub them on your t-shirt - This can be an effective way of cleaning the facade of the earphone short term but this is not an effective solution long term as well as getting your clothing dirty. To fully clean your AirPods it it is necessary to get into all crevese as well as cleaning the case to ensure that you are not just putting then back into dirt. (not to toot our own horn but CleanPods have specialised equipment created to clean not only the AirPods but also the inside of the case)

3. The 'spit shine' - This may have been effective for the Looney Tunes basketball gym in SpaceJam, but I have witnessed this tactic being used to clean AirPods and it is terribly ineffective not to mention being detrimental to your AirPods. I think that it is common knowledge that spit isn't the best of electrical cleaners. But this can actually cause damage to your AirPods whilst reducing effectiveness. So sadly the spit shine isn't a go for earphones.
